Phoebeless note 7/6th graders
Dear Phoebe and people who care about my field placement,

This semester, as I have said, my field placement is in a 6th grade class. And that was kind scary because I've had placements in 3rd grade and 1st grade and to be put in 6th grade was intimidating.

I went there today and the school is kind of confusing to navigate but I found the classroom. The kids start the day going to a special - PE, music, art, or ...sth else, I don't remember. I met my cooperating teacher and she's really cool. She told me her class isn't a part of the middle school in the sense that they switch rooms for each class. i forgot the term she used but her class is like any other elementary class- they're with her the whole day except for the specials and she gets the students who need improvement.

Theres a MAP test that measures where they are with the state benchmarks. 6th grade should be 218-220 and her kids are at like 180-200. So she helps them improve and get up to grade level and then they get sent down to the rest of the middle school.

I started out the morning with my cooperating teacher, Stacey, and we went to a 6th grade team meeting with the 4 other 6th grade teachers. It was interesting to see what they talked about in those meetings. It seemed to be the first team meeting and they were talking about what they wanted to do in the future meetings and how they're going to use the MEAP, MAP and another type of test to measure where all the kids are.
After the meeting, the kids were done with their specials and things got started. I observed for a little bit while they worked on their Minute worksheets. Then she had me read them the answers as they graded each others papers. She had them do some MEAP (the state standardized test) practice and I worked with a group of kids on their practice.

After that I went with a girl who has autism and she read me a book. I think the rest of the class was done math at that point. When I got back she went over their math worksheets then I had to leave to go to class.

It def wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The kids are very talkative though and she has to tell them to be quite A LOT. Sometimes she has to yell. Which...its 6th grade so they talk. I think this field will be fun and interesting and not bad at all :D

AN HOUR UNTIL GREYS!!

AND I HAVE THE NEW TWITTER. ITS COOL.

xoxo
